"Borderline diabetes" means that your fasting blood sugar is over 100 but under 120.
Borderline blood sugars that are somewhat higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes, are now known to be a part of "Metabolic Syndrome." The hallmarks of metabolic syndrome include:
1) Fasting blood sugar between 100-120
2) Blood pressure greater than 130/85
3) Waist circumference greater than 35" (women) or 40" (men)
4) High density lipoprotein < 40
5) Triglyceride level > 150
6) BMI > 25%
If you have three (it may be only two, I can't remember) or more of these symptoms, you are at a more substantial risk of developing Type II diabetes.
